This upgrade turns your S-Play Nano into an S-Play Mini, unlocking the Mini's extra features. It takes two things applied to your Nano: an upgrade license file, then the S-Play Mini firmware. This guide walks you through buying the upgrade, activating it, and applying both files.
The upgrade license is purchased from the ENTTEC website.
After purchase you receive an email with instructions and download links. Your license is always available from your ENTTEC account.
How the upgrade works
- The upgrade is permanent. Once activated, the license is locked to one Nano's MAC address and cannot be moved to another unit.
- You apply two files on the Nano's Firmware Update page, in order: first the upgrade license (unlocks the unit), then the S-Play Mini firmware (makes it a Mini).
- Both files are available from your ENTTEC account, so you can come back and re-download them at any time.
Find your MAC address
In your S-Play Nano's web interface, go to Settings -> Mac Address. Enter all 12 hex characters with no separators (for example 001A7DDA7113).
Important: The MAC address must match your Nano exactly. Because the upgrade is permanent, an incorrect MAC address means you would need to buy another upgrade. Copy and paste it if you can.
Step 1: Activate the upgrade license
Go to My Account on the ENTTEC website, then start activation one of two ways:
- From the Dashboard, click Upgrade your S-Play Nano, or
- Open My Licenses, find your upgrade voucher in the S-PLAY Nano section, and click Activate on that row.
In the Upgrade your S-PLAY Nano popup, fill in:
-
Upgrade voucher code, from your S-Play Nano upgrade card (starts with UPN-).
-
Serial Number, the 7 digits printed on your Nano.
-
Mac Address, the 12 hex characters from the section above.
-
Tick I agree to the ENTTEC Account & License Management Policy, then click Activate upgrade.
Step 2: Apply the upgrade license to your Nano
- On the success screen (Your S-Play Nano upgrade is ready), click Download the upgrade license to save the license file (.bin) to your computer.
- In your Nano's web interface, go to Settings -> Firmware Update and upload the .bin license file. The Nano reboots and is unlocked.
- After the reboot, return to the Firmware Update page. You will now see an Upgrade allowed field in Current System Information showing the unit allows upgrade to S-Play Mini.
Step 3: Load the S-Play Mini firmware
- On the same success screen, click Download firmware to get the S-Play Mini firmware. (You can also download it from the S-Play Mini product page).
- On the same Firmware Update page on your Nano, upload the S-Play Mini firmware.
Your S-Play Nano now runs as an S-Play Mini, and its web interface shows the Mini's features. The upgrade is complete.
Re-download your license later
Need the files again? Go to My Licenses -> S-PLAY Nano. The activated row shows a Firmware button to re-download.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
I entered the wrong MAC address
The upgrade binds permanently to the MAC address you enter, so a wrong address cannot be corrected, you would need to buy another upgrade. Always confirm the MAC in Settings -> Mac Address before activating.
The "Upgrade allowed" field did not appear
Make sure you uploaded the license file (.bin) first and let the Nano fully reboot, then refresh the Firmware Update page. The Mini firmware will only apply after the unit is unlocked.
Can I move the upgrade to another Nano?
No. The upgrade is locked to one Nano's MAC address and is not transferable.
I lost my downloaded files
Both the license and the Mini firmware can be re-downloaded any time, see Re-download your license later above and the S-Play Mini product page.
