How to make VST slowly fall back down from MIDI mapping

Hi there, I'm using Ableton 11 with my ODE MK3 through EMU vst3
I am wanting a realistic lighting effect for when a MIDI CC note triggers a light colour on. Is there anyway to have the lights automatically fade back down after or should I just give up on this?
It looks really cheesy to just have the light turn on by playing a note then only be able to turn it off when I play it again. Also means its not responsive to each note hit as the next note doesn't turn the on again.
In my opinion this should is a must have for working with music, otherwise I can just manually automate each light to a pre-recorded audio track in any other software.
