Copy and paste a fixture in a scene to a new fixture (same model)

I have 8 LED 36x10w wash movers - all in 16 channel mode, and each with their own address so I can tilt / pan them to certain parts of the stage, and use the chase oscillator. I just bought 4 of the exact same movers, and I want to add them to my existing scenes... However, when adding the new fixtures (which will be DMX 129, 145, 161, & 177), they start in default mode (everything zeroed out). I have to go in manually to all 30 scenes, and manipulate the same color, dimmer, strobe scene, pan / tilt.

In a perfect world, there should be a way to copy the settings of and existing fixture in a scene, and paste it onto the new model fixtures within the same scene. This would save TONS of time.

Same with me as with thesoulconnectionuk - I don't feel myself been lied to. The support was always online and replies back very promptly (however I haven't talk to them for a long time as I don't have difficulties using EMU anymore but still thinking they don't leave messages unanswered).

You idea of publishing enttec's plans I don't find real as I've never seen for any product in the Internet when devs share their development plan and timeline. And this platform I guess is made more for us, users, to share our experience and maybe help newbies, i.e. they make their support team life easier and I find it reasonable.

Hey Andy Not at all. They have been really communicative and taken on suggestions - the copy feature is in beta! Check in the updates and it should be there I've not had opportunity to actually try it as yet as I've been away but hopefully it should do what's needed or at least be done way I was going to post once I'd seen it so I could comment properly

Hey _ thesoulconnectionuk

Do you get the feeling you’ve been lied to?

I think Emu is being discontinued and they are just stringing us all along to keep us paying for as long as possible - it might be worth starting a new post with suggestions for alternative software so we can all plan ahead before the inevitable. Enttec Emu support and development is virtually nonexistent, it’s quite obvious what’s going to happen… it’s a shame as it’s really good software but we are being ripped.

Hi all, Super news - I've had emails from Support with a use case/spec for the functionality were after! No timescale or exact details yet of course but this is a really positive step and I'm very excited Thought it'd be good for you folx to know too

I hope this really is happening..I don’t think it would harm them being a bit more active on the forum which helps customer confidence…Iv emailed a few times and never got a reply???

I’m happy about this though as I have invested a lot of time in Emu (and money).

Gad a couple of emails today... "We're working on a some couple big updates. That is our first priority today. Your request to copy attributes to the newly added fixtures to a shaw is already in the to-do list." And " We constantly monitor the Forum. It is one of the sources where we get actual user's needs and put them in our to-do list. As well as tickets of course (here we can speak with our users more close). But here is our priority list of how we work: 1) Our development vision; 2) Hot fixes to resolve bugs; 3) Users requests. Mostly Users's requests match Our development vision. But not currently. This would be a blast, which users don't expect. Unfortunately we can't tell you details at all. It is needed to say - EMU is not abandoned at all (we noticed some concerns on the Forum)..." So hopefully it will be sooner rather than later

Hi Greg, The issue is that Enttec appears to have stopped supporting Emu, it certainly isn’t being developed and they also don’t reply to emails etc.

I thought this original post was gone like a fart in the wind. Glad to see there is some discussion on it. Not being able to 'copy and paste' is still one of the most aggravating things about EMU. I really like the overall functionality and ease of use with EMU, especially since I use it live with Abelton and Studio One. It's been a flawless program as far as DMX scenes to MIDI, but not being able to copy and paste / clone to an exact make and model of an added fixture is pretty ridiculous. I don't see what the issue would be in creating that function. Seems like a fairly easy piece of code they could write.

Nearest I found for live band setting is Light Jams - bit clunky to set the cues (have to have multiple grids and a cue grid) but these can only be triggered in a certain way (midi in the main) whereas I wanted a foot pedal to replicate a button press to manually go to next song EMU does this well but I may revert and suss out a keyboard to midi emulator Don't know if that helps

It’s quite expensive but looks interesting, however I use my lights for a live band that works with click tracks and need the lights to do the same thing not AI it on the spot etc..so I don’t think this would be for me.

I’m looking for something along the same lines as Emu but want to be with a company that supports and develops the software and who actually has a customer support etc..not a company like Enttec who just take the money for software they don’t seem to support of develop and who never answer an email.

Its such a shame as Emu had great promise despite an appalling advertising campaign….

Andy - I've been watching the project over at MaestroDMX for some time now, starting a few years back in their kickstarter days. The model is different there in that it's a high $ one time purchase for the hardware but no subscription. They also seem to listen to the community and are actively adding features/improvements all the time. It is an A.I. based controller but they've added in the ability to trigger different cues via MIDI now. Check it out. I have cancelled my EMU subscription and plan to buy a MaestroDMX unit

Hi Matt

What alternatives have you seen?

You are right that the development team don’t listen anymore (this forum bares whiteness to that) I for one feel I’m paying a monthly fee for nothing…Enttec have really let us down.

Totally agree with everything said in this thread. I have thought the same thing for a long time. There are many other features that could be added to simplify the workflow but right now it is very manual and time consuming to do anything in EMU. It's not worth the $10 / month subscription for this when there are better options out there with dev teams that actually listen to feedback.

Thanks Andy I'll give it a go as that's exactly what I need - settings for a Setlist for a live band Support seemed to indicate that it is still very much a current software with an interest to develop. I hope this is the case as it (now I know what's what) pretty much does what's needed A few quirbles aside

I originally asked for a 3rd column so that ‘favorite’ fixture settings can be stored and then drag and dropped into the ‘new’ song thus speeding up the process. I always have a blue wash at the beginning of most songs (not all) It would save time to have these settings (along with other favorites) available from a favorite column instead of having to search through other songs for them…. I think they have gone as far as they want to go with Emu now which is a real shame ☹️
