When Receiving OSC Message, ELM displays a slight pause

Hi, we're sending OSC commands from custom software to ELM. Everything works great. However, whenever ELM receives an OSC message, we see a slight pause.
We're not doing complex animations, it's like just processing the OSC message takes precedent over the visuals and the visuals pause a little. Right now we're just using the OSC command to set the speed variable.
To explain further, we see this slight pause even if the speed var we're setting hasn't changed. For example, in ELM, if the speed is 1.5 and OSC sets the speed to 1.5, we still see the pause.
Any help would be appreciated.
