Record a Standalone Show:
- Open our EMU software.
- Navigate to the Settings menu by navigating to the gear icon in the top right corner, then navigating to the Output tab.
- Identify the device from the list; use the ‘Rescan for Devices’ button if the device doesn’t appear.
- Click on the Settings cog next to the device, and navigate to the Standalone tab.
- If there is already a show on the DMX USB Pro Mk2 you will need to delete it within the Delete tab.
Navigate to the Record tab. Fill out the following information:
- Name the show in the ‘Show Name’ Field
- Set how many times to play the recorded show from the "Play Count" drop-down.
- Set a delay between each time the show plays by using the "Loop Delay" drop-down.
- Set whether you want it to play immediately on power-up or not using the "Play on Powerup" drop-down.
- Set the number of DMX channels to record (the less you record the longer it can record for).
Number of DMX Channels | Recording time in minutes |
512 | 1.7 |
256 | 3.4 |
128 | 6.8 |
64 | 13.7 |
50 | 17.5 |
32 | 27.3 |
- Choose which Outputs will put out the data by selecting from the "Output on DMX Port" drop-down menu.
Select the Input from the drop-down:
- DMX: This will record from the DMX USB Pro Mk2’s DMX Input ports.
- Art-Net (127.0.0.1) is an internal loopback address. The software outputting Art-Net would need to be outputting on the internal network adapter. The recording Universe will need to be set and match the incoming source.
- Art-Net (x.x.x.x) is the IP address of your computer’s network card. The software outputting Art-Net would need to be outputting on the internal network adapter. The recording Universe will need to be set and match the incoming source.
- Finally, set the Universe.
You can record a perfect loop effect using the ‘Recording Control’ section. This will prompt you to define a ‘Trigger Channel’, this DMX channel doesn’t necessarily need to control a fixture. It can be a dummy channel that’s patched purely to control the recording process.
- Recording will start when the Trigger Channel DMX value is equal or above the set ‘Value’.
- Recording will stop when Trigger Channel DMX value drops below value defined.
To create a perfect loop set the trigger channel to be above the Value threshold at the beginning and below at the end.
Click "Record" to begin recording or arm the trigger channel.
When you are done recording, click "Stop".
Click "Upload to DMX USB Pro Mk2" and your show will be uploaded to the device memory (this could take some time depending on how many channels you recorded and for how long.)
Transfer Standalone Show (Export/Import)
Standalone Shows on the DMX USB PRO Mk2 can be Exported from one device and Imported into another:
- Open our EMU software.

- Identify the device from the list, use the ‘Rescan for Devices’ button if the device doesn’t appear.

If a show has already been recorded it can be exported from the Export tab. Here you can click on the ‘Save to file’ button which will open up the standard File Explore save option.
A standalone show can be imported into the DMX USB Pro Mk2 using the Import Tab, though if there’s already a show on the DMX USB Pro Mk2, this will need to be removed from the Delete tab first. Here you can ‘choose file’ (opening the standard File Explorer window). Once you have clicked Open, it will display the Standalone’s show’s information at the bottom of the Import Tab. Once you are happy, click on the ‘Import to DMX USB Pro Mk2’ button.

Export D-Pro Show to Standalone
You can export any D-Pro cue list to a DMX PRO Mk2, and then run that show in standalone mode
Connect the PRO Mk2 to your computer and click the top button to establish a connection. The “Show name” and other fields will display any standalone show currently loaded in that box. To download a cuelist to the box:
- Select the desired cuelist under “Available cuelists”
- Configure the “Delay before looping”, “Loop count”, “DMX port” and “Play show at power on” options as required
- Click “Download cuelist”.
The cue list will then be automatically rendered and downloaded in the highest possible quality.
Troubleshooting
If the Recorded frames state 0/0 and the DMX USB Pro Mk2 is unable to record a standalone show, please update your firmware to version 4.19 or higher.
Depending on the age of your DMX USB Pro Mk2, your device will either display "Shows x/4040" or "Shows x/8088", as with the newer devices we were able to increase the amount of storage available.
