Storm 10 Firmware V1.5.4 — Full Release Notes and Upgrade Guide

Firmware V1.5.4 is a major update for the ENTTEC Storm 10 that introduces high-speed Overdrive output, full RDM device management on DMX outputs, a redesigned web interface, and per-port DMX merging. Versions V1.5.1 through V1.5.4 build on the V1.5 foundation with targeted reliability and usability refinements. This article is the canonical technical reference for all changes since V1.4 and is intended for Storm 10 owners, lighting designers, system integrators, and AV rental companies running high-density LED pixel fixtures such as LED bars and Chinese-manufactured dot fixtures.

Overdrive: High-Speed DMX Output

Overdrive mode unlocks a new performance ceiling for the Storm 10's DMX outputs:

• Run any output at up to 2 Mbit/s, dramatically increasing refresh rates and throughput compared to the standard 250 kbit/s line rate.
• Carry up to 4 DMX universes per output port, giving a maximum of 40 universes across all 10 outputs on a single Storm 10 unit.
• Overdrive mode is particularly effective when driving high-density LED pixel products (dots, bars, and similar fixtures) that benefit from faster, more frequent data updates.

RDM on DMX Outputs

Full RDM support is now available on every DMX output port, with no trade-off between RDM and Overdrive:

• Discover, address, and monitor RDM-capable fixtures directly through the Storm 10 on any output port.
• RDM pass-through (GET and SET) allows your console or control software to communicate with fixtures over Art-Net as if connected directly.
• Supports up to 512 RDM devices, reported to controllers with full paging.
• RDM operates in both standard (250 kbit/s) and Overdrive modes — there is no need to choose between speed and device management.

Redesigned Web Interface

The configuration UI has been rebuilt from the ground up:

• Cleaner, faster layout with light and dark themes.
• Live DMX buffer view lets you inspect output levels for any port directly from the browser without additional software.
• Node-name editing and other per-device configuration fields are now more accessible and consistently styled across both themes.

Per-Port DMX Merging

• HTP (Highest Takes Precedence) and LTP (Latest Takes Precedence) merging of multiple Art-Net sources per universe.
• Art-Net Sync support for tightly coordinated multi-source setups.
• Merge behaviour is configured independently per port.

Improvements and Fixes

RDM

• V1.5.4: Resolved an intermittent discovery failure affecting multiple fixtures from the same manufacturer chained on a single port. Previously, one or more devices in such a chain could fail to appear in the device list; discovery is now reliable across all tested configurations.

Configuration and Reliability

• Saved settings are now validated on startup. If any stored setting is incompatible with the running firmware version, the unit safely resets that setting to a known default rather than producing blank or garbled configuration pages.
• Out-of-the-box defaults are now more sensible: all outputs ship configured as DMX OUT at 250 kbit/s with consecutive universe assignments.
• Firmware update and boot handling is more robust, reducing the chance of a failed or partial update leaving the unit in an unrecoverable state.

DMX Output

• Every output frame now correctly transmits the DMX null start code, ensuring full standards compliance.
• A configurable refresh-rate cap (default 40 Hz) provides consistent, standards-friendly output timing and prevents runaway refresh rates from overwhelming downstream fixtures.

Web Interface

• Multiple UI fixes across both themes, including corrected dark-mode input field styling and improved node-name editing behaviour.

Upgrade Notes

Important: Settings reset on first boot after upgrade.

On the first boot following a firmware update to V1.5.x, the Storm 10 automatically validates all stored settings against the new firmware. Any setting that is incompatible with V1.5.x is reset to a safe default value. This process is automatic and non-destructive to the firmware itself, but it means your previous port configuration may not be preserved as-is.

After upgrading, you should review and reconfigure the following for each port before returning the unit to service:

• Output mode (standard DMX or Overdrive)
• Universe assignments (especially if using Overdrive's multi-universe-per-port layout)
• Merge settings (HTP/LTP source priorities per universe)

ENTTEC recommends performing the upgrade during a maintenance window and verifying all port assignments in the web interface before the unit goes back into production use.

Installation Steps

1. Download the V1.5.4 firmware package from the ENTTEC website (link below).
2. Open the Storm 10 web interface by entering the unit's IP address in a browser.
3. Navigate to Settings > Firmware Update.
4. Select the downloaded .bin file and click Upload.
5. Wait for the unit to apply the firmware and reboot. Do not power-cycle the unit during this process.
6. Once the unit has rebooted, log back into the web interface and review all port configuration settings as described in the Upgrade Notes section above.
